Bio

Hello and welcome! I’m Sumi (she/hers) and I am a licensed social worker/psychotherapist, certified in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC). I received my Master’s in Clinical Social Work from the University of Chicago Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice (previously known as School of Social Service Administration) and a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences at Texas State University.

My focus as a therapist is to center a creative and collaborative approach, while striving to create a welcoming and accepting environment to help clients overcome obstacles, strengthen relationships, and achieve their goals. I incorporate my clinical practice with a strengths-based and holistic approach, while utilizing trauma-informed approaches, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, relational theories, and mind-body techniques when needed. My therapeutic work background includes people with anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, family and relationship conflict.

As a first-generation Korean American woman, I serve clients with emotional difficulty surrounding the trauma of immigration, acculturation, and identity processes while engaging in cultural humility.
