About Therese
I’m Therese Soco, a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in California and New York, and an out of state telehealth provider in Florida, specializing in Asian American mental health.
I work with adults navigating cultural identity, with new mothers navigating how parenthood reshapes their marriage, friendships, and family relationships, and with couples working through the strain of major life transitions. These are forms of the same question: who am I, who are we, now that the ground has shifted?
I offer individual therapy, couples therapy, and walk & talk outdoor sessions in Cupertino and the Silicon Valley area. I am also a Visiting Expert at New Mom School South Bay, where I speak on relationship changes after baby.
My Background
I grew up in the Philippines, later moved to New York City, and now call California home. These transitions shaped how I understand identity – the way it shifts when you move between cultures, languages, and expectations. I know what it’s like to navigate multiple worlds and to feel caught between them.
Becoming a mother was its own version of that same shift. The relationships I thought I understood all needed re-translating once I was on the other side of it. That experience deepened something I already believed clinically: that the biggest identity transitions in our lives rarely happen to us alone. They happen inside our relationships, and they ask us to figure out who we are within them, again.
This lived experience informs my work, especially with BIPOC, first-generation, and immigrant clients, and with mothers navigating relationship change across cultures and generations. I also welcome anyone seeking a reflective, grounded space for personal growth, regardless of background.
My Approach
I’m trained in Jungian depth psychology, which means I’m interested in the unconscious patterns, symbols, and stories that shape who you are. Therapy with me isn’t just about solving problems, it’s about understanding yourself more deeply. We explore what’s beneath the surface: the parts of you that got pushed aside, the patterns you keep repeating, the identity you’re still becoming. I don’t offer quick fixes. I offer a space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with yourself.
My Experience
Since 2012, I’ve worked in a variety of clinical settings such as crisis hotlines, inpatient hospitals, school-based programs, outpatient clinics, and clinical research. Each setting taught me something different about resilience, suffering, and the many ways people heal. I bring all of that into my private practice.
