Jessica acknowledges the mental health field as currently based on a predominantly Western framework and particularly lacking Asian representation. She works to dismantle the systems that keep it so while making space for marginalized identities. She understands that wellness may not look the same for everyone and is dedicated to helping others explore, achieve, and challenge what wellness means to them.
Jessica aims to create a safe and open space within the therapy room where clients feel supported and empowered to express themselves fully and take risks so that they may heal and grow and discover in all of their identities. She is committed to providing (collective) trauma-informed, multi-culturally sensitive care to all of her clients while using an integrative approach to address her clients’ individual needs.
Jessica received her BA in Psychology from UC Berkeley and her MA in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness at NYU with an advanced certificate in LGBTQ+ Health. Her experience as a bi/pansexual Chinese-American woman who grew up in rural Pennsylvania and moved to the Bay Area for her undergraduate degree has allowed her a unique perspective of the world. Jessica has experience leading conversations and facilitating discussions on various topics involving the intersection of social issues and mental health. As a mental health therapist, she specifically sought out training and supervision in a setting that prioritizes clients and clinicians of various intersecting marginalized identities. Jessica is an active social justice and mental health advocate on a life-long journey of learning while unlearning the voices of the oppressors and helping others to do the same.
