So you’ve searched all of the Googles for an AAPI therapist and made it to this directory and then to my page. Maybe ethnicity and racial identity doesn’t matter to some folks, but it matters to you and that’s okay. It’s hard enough trusting a stranger; adding a cultural barrier only adds another layer of skepticism. “How could a stranger who doesn’t know me or my life understand what I’m going through? How could they possibly help me?” Hi, I’m Jonathan (He/Him) and I’m a stranger who’d like to try.

I have experience in providing therapy for adults struggling with depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, among other areas. If you’re going through some sort life change, gender or sexual identity issue, or struggling in your interpersonal relationships, we can talk and create a strategy for that too. I think there’s a time and place for mental health diagnoses, but my work with you will emphasize more on your experiences of the problem and how to work through it, around it, or  manage it better so that you can live with more satisfaction and functionality.

I approach therapy through a trauma-informed lens and as a team effort—each of us has our own role to play. You’re the expert of your own experiences, and I’ll guide us through exploring your thoughts, emotions, and actions as we work on what you hope to change. Together, we’ll identify your strengths, limits, and challenges to help you achieve your goals—our goals. I’ve also completed EMDRIA-approved Basic Training for EMDR if that’s within your interests.

If you live anywhere in Virginia and are searching for a telehealth therapist who is culturally sensitive with experience working with diverse populations including those in the LGBTQ+ and Asian American communities, then please reach out and let’s talk about what you need and how I can best support you.
