Bio

I am a second-generation Chinese American clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience providing therapy. My specialty is Asian American mental health issues, including social identities, family of origin, gender roles, queer issues, race-based traumatic stress, grief and loss, and life transitions. I see therapy as a collaborative effort and practice from an approach that draws from interpersonal, multicultural, feminist, and psychodynamic theoretical orientations. I am warm, caring, and gentle in my interactions with others.  I feel passionately about social justice issues, and I believe this equally informs my therapy practice and way of being.

In addition to my primary work as a therapist, I also enjoy writing, teaching, presenting workshops, and community service. I believe in the scientist-practitioner model of psychology, which speaks to the value of both the art and the science of psychotherapy. I have published and presented extensively about Asian American mental health, identity development, and media images and stereotypes. I value community service and have volunteered with community organizations for decades. Most recently, I have served as president of the board of our local rape crisis center. You can find more information within my website.

I am able to see clients in-person in Champaign-Urbana or via telehealth.
