Kimberly Nguyen is a second-generation Vietnamese-American artist and art therapist. She is passionate about empowering BIPOC through their therapy experiences, particularly through art therapy. Systems make it exhausting for people to be authentically themselves, therefore it’s important to have someone to hold space for healing and thriving. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Art Therapist, and Nationally Certified Counselor. She earned both of her Master’s degrees in Clinical Counseling and Art Therapy from Emporia State University.
Kimberly became a therapist because the art-making process helped her process her cultural identities as well as her lived experience as a daughter of immigrants. As a clinician, she has always been passionate about the accessibility of mental health care, especially among marginalized populations. She believes that the creative arts offer marginalized groups mental health care that is destigmatized and non-invasive.
For the past 5 years, Kimberly has had the privilege to work with individuals with mood, anxiety, substance use, and trauma-related issues. She also has experience working with those who struggle with chronic homelessness and the criminal justice system. Her therapy approach is grounded in an eclectic mix of multicultural, family systems, and cognitive behavioral therapy, with a focus on collaboration and communication through art making.
