Marissa is a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Colorado Denver. Marissa comes from a multiracial and multicultural background having Korean, Japanese, and Scottish-American heritage. Coming from a mixed background herself, Marissa recognizes the challenges that can come with navigating a multicultural identity.
Marissa’s experience is rooted in grief work, supporting folks who are living with or may be anticipating a death loss, and disenfranchised grievers. Having worked as a grief counselor in the hospice setting, she has experience in working with adults of all ages, backgrounds, and life experiences. Marissa’s approach to therapy is grounded in grief and loss, narrative and storytelling, and identity and values exploration.
Marissa is especially interested in working with clients of diverse backgrounds who may be experiencing conflict in navigating a multicultural identity, who are experiencing intergenerational cultural dissonance/conflict, and/or are experiencing grief and loss in its many forms.
