Bio

Alysha Chan Kent is a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC #10002979) as recognized by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of British Columbia Student Counselling Centre, where she provided evidence-based counselling for emerging adults with a range of concerns including but not limited to mood, anxiety, transitional, relational, and trauma-related concerns. Prior to this, she lived and worked in Calgary, providing psychotherapy at Mount Royal University, Alberta University of the Arts, and various other community settings.

Alysha works as a generalist practitioner providing treatment for a range of mental health concerns. Her approach is grounded in the evidence-based practices of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Trained as a scientist practitioner, she operates from a client-centered and trauma-informed lens. She works closely with clients to identify key concerns, develop realistic and meaningful goals, and create a treatment plan that align with her client’s overarching goals. This work is grounded in the development of a safe therapeutic relationship.

As a researcher, her expertise lies in the areas of culture-infused counselling, Chinese-Canadian studies, identity development, psychosocial transitions, family relations, and qualitative methodologies.
