Bio

How are you really feeling? Our emotions can feel out of reach, confusing or overwhelming. From an early age, I learned how helpful it was to open up in a safe space and feel my emotions to move past them. I gravitated to Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) as a therapy approach for helping others given its strong alignment with my personal experiences and values. EFT is an evidence-based therapy approach for treating a range of issues like depression, anxiety and trauma. When we feel the emotions connected to our issues, we start to understand ourselves better and open ourselves to healing, change and growth to feel more confident and satisfied in our relationships and life in general. EFT can improve our self-regulation, general emotional intelligence, compassion, empathy, confidence and connection to others.

I am a GTA-based Clinical and Counselling Psychologist. For over 15 years, I have worked in healthcare, post-secondary and organizational settings helping individuals and organizations improve their mental and emotional health and wellness. Driven by my commitment to provide person-centered mental health care and my core value that “emotion matters,” I established EmotionMatters Psychology as a centre for supporting compassion, healing and growth for individuals. I also oversee Workplace Peer Support Programs in Ontario Public Service and teach psychotherapy and counselling courses at York University.

I am certified as an EFT Supervisor and Therapist by Dr. Leslie Greenberg (the creator of EFT) and the International Society for Emotion-Focused Therapy (isEFT). I have co-facilitated EFT trainings, co-authored a chapter in the Clinical Handbook for Emotion-Focused Therapy and have published research and presented at international conferences on EFT.

I support clients experiencing relationship issues, self-criticism, perfectionism, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, trauma and emotional regulation difficulties. While I am trained in EFT, I also practice and can integrate other evidence-based approaches like Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I strive to get to know you as a person and your unique needs in a safe and inclusive space and collaborate with you on a journey to a stronger, healthier, and more confident you.
