Hi, I am Charlette! I am a mental health counselor(MHC-LP) based in New York City. I graduated from Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness program with a dual degree in LGBTQ+ Health, Education, and Social Services at New York University.
I practice from a multicultural, feminist, anti-oppressive, systems-focused perspective that is BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ affirming. I utilize an eclectic approach, combining psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, and relational approaches to meet my clients’ various needs. I also incorporate techniques from CBT, DBT, and mindfulness to support your progress. I create a safe space for my clients to talk about their beliefs, desires, and fears.
My prior experience working in both the U.S. and China has provided me with a wealth of multicultural clinical expertise. I’ve assisted adults and older individuals in addressing a wide range of issues, including sexuality, anxiety, depression, physical disabilities, chronic illness/pain, trauma, grief, life transitions, family conflicts, intimate partner violence, and relational challenges. I’m particularly passionate about providing support to clients seeking help with issues related to sex, sexuality, queer identities, open/poly relationships, and kink/BDSM.
As a former Chinese international student, I also have a special interest in working with the Asian community and immigrants. I fully understand how challenging it is to find a therapist who speaks your language and understands your culture. I believe our shared language, culture, history, and politics can provide you a safe space where you can find the best language to tell your story and express your feelings, as well as be understood.
