My counselling approach is a blend of psychotherapy modalities and social-cultural frameworks that not only guide me but root my practice in ethics. In therapy, I combine talk therapy with somatic approaches in a safe, collaborative, and trauma-informed environment. Through the use of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) and Attachment Theory,my clients discover/reclaim the resources they need to explore their concerns, develop a deeper understanding and transform their life challenges into creative acts of triumph.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a holistic mind-body approach that aims to create a healthy alliance between our minds and our emotional/physical bodies. This approach has been proven extremely effective for anyone struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, anger, and other life stressors that can cause dysregulation. This may be through helping you calm your nervous system, becoming aware of tension/holding patterns, working with difficult emotions that have been suppressed or are overwhelming, working with limiting beliefs, or helping you to observe, understand and trust your body’s cues more fully.
While most of my clients benefit from SP, I also recognize there is no “one size fits all” approach. Some of my clients prefer approaches rooted in Narrative Therapy (NT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Existential Therapy. Through these “talk therapy” modalities we can have structured dialogues that help you gain a better understanding of unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours. I use a collaborative approach to ensure my clients are fully engaged and empowered throughout their therapeutic process.
