Bio

My name is Jiwon, an Alberta-based Registered Psychologist and Trauma Therapist. I’m a Korean Canadian immigrant from South Korea. I live on Treaty 7 land in what is now called Calgary. I offer online therapy specializing in helping people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, family of origin issues, discrimination, trauma, and sexual violence. I like to work with adults of all ages, especially 2SLGBTQIA+ and BIPOC populations. I offer therapy in both English and Korean.

As a therapist of colour and immigrant to Canada, I have experienced and identify deeply with some of the common struggles faced by the BIPOC and immigrant communities. I wish to be someone who can help you from your point of view.

You and your concerns will be honoured, and together we will identify the strengths and wisdom you already possess. By meeting your unmet needs, you can move out of a stuck pattern and find new possibilities that serve you better. Your needs matter. You can heal, and you deserve to find a therapist who can empathize with you and provide support for your unique experiences and needs. I will meet you with care and warmth to help you move toward healing.

I am guided by somatic, feminist and culturally sensitive approaches that consider the impacts of personal, social, cultural, and systemic factors on your struggles. When you can accept yourself and your situation with kindness and care, you can trust yourself even in hard times and face barriers with courage.

You will be empowered to exercise your voice and agency in therapy. I offer skills, knowledge, and a space where you can nurture your emotions, body, and compassion for yourself. Together, we can build safety and regulation.

You can release your shame and guilt and make long-lasting changes. You can stand up for yourself and quiet your critical inner voice. The journey to healing is not linear, but it is possible. I will meet you where you are, and I would be honoured to walk with you on this path toward finding your inherent worth and feeling light, energized, and free.
