Nayantara aims to provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients can share their concerns, recognize their strengths, and work towards their goals. She believes that the relationship between the therapist and the client is at the center of therapy and sees them as equal partners in this collaborative process. While she employs a person-centered lens in her work, she also draws from other evidence-based theories like psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
Nayantara grew up in India and is passionate about tackling the stigma surrounding seeking help for mental health concerns. Her previous experiences include providing psycho-social support to people affected by communal riots in India, facilitating sensitization workshops on child sexual abuse for parents from underserved communities, and volunteering with community agencies that provided individual therapy and organised awareness drives about mental health and well-being.
As a person of color living in the US, Nayantara is attuned to concerns related to acculturation, multicultural identities and values, and family relationships. She has experience working with first and second generation immigrants and people with anxiety, stress, depression, relationship concerns, life transitions, and trauma.
Nayantara has an M.A. and an Ed.M. in Mental Health Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University. She currently works with The Pond, a group private practice, and offers individual therapy in person and online.
