Victoria Chiu, PhD, LMHC, LMFT, LPC

Sex/Gender: Female, Cisgender
Pronouns: She / Her
Ethnicity: Chinese
Bio

After completing her Master’s in counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Victoria worked as a bilingual play therapist treating young children and low-income families in a community health setting. From 2009-2017, her international experience dovetailed with her biculturalism as she developed mental health work in mainland China, supported social service agencies such as orphanages, provided direct care for expats, Third Culture kids, and local Chinese clients, while mentoring Chinese therapists.

During nearly 20 years of clinical experience, she has developed an integrated, trauma-informed, attachment-focused, systemically-oriented approach to working with individuals (children, adolescents, adults), couples, and families on a variety of issues ranging from depression & anxiety to relational patterns, from abuse & neglect to grief & transition. Working within a systemic and trauma-informed approach, she may draw from cognitive-behavioral techniques, art & play, narrative therapies, and EMDR, while collaborating with the client throughout the therapy relationship. She has also conducted various trainings across China and in NYC on topics ranging from abuse awareness to racial trauma to positive discipline. During her doctoral training, she worked with clients at the Child Center of New York and Redeemer Counseling Services.

In 2023, she completed her Ph.D. in marriage and family therapy (MFT) specializing in children and adolescents. Her qualitative research on American-born Chinese “satellite babies” examines the systemic complexity of attachment trauma, racism, and resilience for those who experienced early childhood separation from their biological parents. She intends Dayspring to be a local presence with global reach. She loves hiking, biking, puppies, the cello, and, definitely, good food of all varieties.
