Bio

As a second-generation Asian-American and among the first in my family to attend college, I learned a lot about forging new paths and negotiating conflicting values and identities. Decisions (ours and others), opportunities, and natural limitations influence us everyday – figuring out how to navigate these issues would have been exponentially harder if I didn’t have teachers, mentors, and friends who encouraged me and walked with me. Being a psychologist allows me to integrate my lived experiences with formal training to help my clients live meaningful lives.

Early on in my career, I committed to working with a wide variety of mental health issues because I believe it is critical for an aspiring psychologist to see and understand the spectrum of human experience. I worked in the county jail system, community mental health centers, university counseling centers, hospital emergency rooms, psychiatric inpatient units, day treatment programs, and group practices.

I learned how to effectively help individuals and families all along the spectrum: some in the midst of acute crises (e.g., suicidal thoughts, self-destructive behaviors) and others had endured significant hardships so we worked on making meaning out of suffering and improving their quality of life.
