Bio

PADMA, the Sanskrit word for “lotus,” is an acronym for the principles that guide my clinical practice and daily life: Positivity, Authenticity, Development & Growth, Mutuality, and Appreciation & Gratitude.  As a mental health counselor, I am motivated to help others achieve happiness, contentment, and fulfillment in their lives.  I work collaboratively with my clients to develop individualized treatment plans that build on their unique strengths.  I also strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental, welcoming, respectful, and empowering practice environment.

As a former physician, I graduated first in my class from the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in 2002, completed my pediatric residency training at Stanford University Medical Center in 2005, and practiced as a hospital-based pediatrician for the next 15 years.  I taught pediatrics at medical schools around the country and received faculty teaching awards for my work with University of Michigan residents and University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill medical students.

Out of concern for the growing number of patients on my service who were struggling with suicidality, I completed courses in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) through the Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatry Academy in 2015 and integrated CBT into my medical practice.  My interest in and passion for promoting mental wellness started me on the path to becoming a dedicated mental health provider.  In 2020 I completed a Master of Science degree in clinical mental health counseling at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and in 2024 I completed an internship as a licensed professional counselor associate.  My practice is now comprised exclusively of counseling and psychotherapy for adult clients.  (Please note that I do *not* prescribe or manage medications.)

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation for each potential client.  Call or email me anytime, if you’re ready to start on your path to wellness!
