Bio

Welcome!

I’m glad you’re here. Mental health affects us all – it’s present in everything we do and every day of our lives. It can be overwhelming at times, but it is not something anyone has to do on their own.

That’s where I can support you – I’m Richard (he/him), a gay Taiwanese-American licensed therapist.

Like many children of immigrants, emotions and mental health came second to keeping my head down and focusing on surviving. I know what it’s like to feel confused about my worth and to not have an outlet where I could believe I mattered. I’ve seen how others around me were trying their best to make sense of their own mental health without having the vocabulary to name their experiences. It’s because of these unspoken struggles that I chose to become a therapist. I wanted to turn stigmas and stereotypes on their heads and help people learn a new language to define what mental health can mean to them.

My experiences have involved advocating for and working with members of marginalized communities experiencing a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety trauma, chronic conditions, substance use, racial identity development, race-based discrimination, and relationship conflicts. I use a combination of behavioral and relational therapies to provide culturally- and queer- affirming care. My goal as your therapist is to center a person’s lived experience in the work we do together in achieving a fulfilling life.

I can usually be found lounging on the couch with my cat, playing video games, trying new tea shops, and hiking around the Bay.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule a free phone consultation – reach out today to take that next step!
